Elfrida Expansion Appeal Moves Forward

One of the largest development proposals in Hamilton’s history is planning to bring 115,000 new residents to Upper Stoney Creek and is now moving forward at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).

The project, known as the Elfrida Lands, would see roughly 3,000 acres of new housing and mixed-use development east of Upper Centennial and south of the hydro corridor. Hamilton City Council rejected the proposal in June, but developers have since appealed that decision to the OLT.

The first case management conference was held this week, with dozens of developers, lawyers, and residents in attendance. Which is a sign of just how significant this case is for Hamilton’s future growth.

If approved, Elfrida could reshape Hamilton’s urban boundary and create one of the largest new residential communities in the city’s history. The OLT will now review technical reports, policy issues, and expert testimony before setting hearing dates.
